Comarex’s Marcel Vinay Discusses Azteca Partnership

NEW YORK: As Azteca celebrates its 20th anniversary, Marcel Vinay, the CEO of Comarex, reflects on the relationship between the two companies and looks ahead at the promising future.

WS: How did the relationship between Azteca and Comarex begin?
VINAY: We started working together in 1996 with the distribution of Nada personal, a telenovela. Since then, it’s been an honor to continue working with a company that has such a great collaborative team that also develops world-class content.

WS: What are some of the factors that have contributed to Azteca’s growth and international recognition?
VINAY: The fundamental success of Azteca’s international recognition is thanks to quality content and the positive results on TV screens in over 140 countries around the world.

WS: What are the most recognized Azteca productions globally? What qualities do they have that have kept viewers loyal?
VINAY: During the 17 years that Azteca product has travelled around the world, great content has been made, including La academia, Lo que callamos las mujeres, Cada quien su santo, Drenaje profundo and La teniente, etc. In regard to telenovelas, there are many hits and new titles get added to the list every year. Recent novelas include Amor cautivo, Los Rey and La otra cara del alma.

WS: How do you see the relationship between Comarex and Azteca in the future? What new projects will you be working on in 2013?
VINAY: I see a future filled with trust and teamwork, where we will be able to maximize content penetration worldwide, not only in [international territories] but also in new media. There are some interesting projects for Azteca in 2013 that we showcased at NATPE, and we’re sure that they will be successful on different television screens around the world.
